NEW FOR 2025!

ONE PIECE BUILDS!

In the interest of best sound quality craftsmanship and artistic expression, all current and future builds will be one piece or neck-thru construction. One piece builds are hewn entirely from a single plank of wood with no joints, other than the truss rod fill piece. Sure, it's a little more work. OK, a lot more, with no room for error. The added feel, sound, and playability are well worth it. Bolt on necks may be available upon request for custom builds.

Tilt back headstocks.

The neck/headstock interface has been designed and sculpted with strategically added material to ensure strength and durability, without feeling bulky. In fact, the necks now are even slimmer thanks to the custom truss rods and shape sculpting.

New lighter weight. most, if not all builds will weigh in between 3.1-3.7 kg (7-8 lbs). Some exception will be made for denser cuts.

Design

Phoenix Basscraft is committed to quality and customer service, with focus on craftsmanship and detail using the best materials available. Instruments are individually made and can be customized to your specifications.  Each one is hand crafted by me, a long time bassist. I understand what a bassists wants and needs in an instrument. An instrument that is as beautiful to look at as it is to hear, and play. Something that feels like your favorite jeans fresh out of the dryer. An instrument that simply can't be ignored. Please refer to my reviews section for feedback and references. I proudly feature Nordstrand pickups and preamps in most stock builds.

Custom orders are welcome! Typical build time is about 12 weeks, (sometimes less) depending on demand and market availability of woods. A 50% non-refundable down payment required to get your order in the cue. Or, please check my In Stock page to veiw completed builds available for purchase today. Wiring is solid silver core with high temp PVC coating, where applicable, or stranded silver wire with high temp PVC coating. Virtually any control configuration can be built, just ask! Passive tone controls include user adjustable modules inside the control cavity and can include mid cut, three treble cut ranges, and three mid "boost"ranges. Cavities, windings, covers and wires are all shielded for maximum noise reduction.

Truss Rods

Designed and manufactured in Healdsberg, CA by Mike Gutsch. These Flexstrong trussrods are custom ordered to exact specifications for Phoenix Basscraft. They feature:

  • All stainless steel construction
  • Simple dual action design that allows for smooth, fine adjustment (but not so fine as to risk bottoming out the threads, or being overly tedious to adjust)
  • Anti-vibration tubing to ensure against the rod binding up in the channel or "wolf tones" from minute rattling at certain frequencies
  • "T-rod" end blocks for large footprints, pressure distribution and to facilitate thin neck shapes
  • induction brazed for superior strength, reliability and durability

These rods cost a little more. OK, more than a little. But well worth the investment.
