Birdsong

Rise 535-Directeur, fretless

$1700.00

Named for my great grandmother, a proud Blackfoot. Like  it's fretted sibling Pi'ksii, it loves to sing. Translucent metallic pink pearl top and matching headstock cap. This bass is cut entirely from one plank of black limba. The only seam in the wood is the backfill strip for the truss rod. The tone is punchy, wooly, mid forward, yet has good articulation and definition. Neck is slim, C-D and hand shaped to feel organic and effortless. The aesthetics are accentuated by matching headstock, Ruthenium finish hardware, and awabi shell inlay. Nordstrand provides the P/J pup's and 2b preamp. PCB passive tone modules are also included. The strings are GHS pressure wound bronze. They are mid forward and great for fretless. EB pressure wounds would be a great choice to get more of that round wound tone without tearing up the fretboard. IMHO, the tone is best played wide open w/out tone circuit influence. Tone knobs included for those who like to fuss with them anyway. The finish is hand rubbed CA glue. Controls are as follows: Vol, pan, tone, B/T stack. Vol is push/push bypass. Mini toggle is 3 way selection for passive tone contours of standard treble cut, light treble cut (mid forward) and mid cut. The action is low and fast.
